Fishing for litter & Adopt the beach

Marine litter represents a very big problem for us and for the entire marine ecosystem, therefore, actions that help raising public awareness regarding this problem are of a great importance.

Within the project implemented by Institute of Marine Biology, UCG, we conducted a promotional campaign of two main project activities such as “Adopt the beach” and “Fishing for litter”, in three municipalities, Bar, Budva and Herceg Novi, on Thursday, 9 th of November, together with the colleagues from the NGO Wildlife Montenegro.

“Adopt the beach” is a pilot project that represents collection of marine litter on few beaches along the coast of Montenegro. These activities were public and every interested citizen could join them, while on the other side, the main role of the pilot project “Fishing for litter” had fishermen.

“Fishing for litter” represents collection of marine litter in trawler nets by chance, during the random fishing day and its storage on the boat in the special bags. After the end of the fishing. After the end of the fishing day, marine litter is disposed on the marine in the designated places and thus is avoided its return in the sea.

This project is supported by UNEP/MAP (United Nations Environment Programme/Mediterranean Action Plan) through the SSFA call.
